There is an adage that goes, health is wealth. It is often easy to underestimate the weight of that adage if someone has not witnessed the potency of an illness to wretch a life, destroy livelihoods, and render initially productive people dimensionally redundant. Health is a pivotal aspect of life that I dare say surpasses wealth. It is the essence of comfort, the pillar of productivity, and the source of unparalleled joy. There are so many issues that threaten good health, the majority of which are lifestyle factors. Leading a sedentary lifestyle, alcoholism, smoking, and engaging in sexual promiscuity are all traits that have the potency to ruin good health. Society plays a crucial determinant role in shaping the health of its people. Society stratifications in terms of social classes expose people to different food environments, public facilities, and social amenities. The implications of these factors are intertwined in the sense that they collectively affect healthcare, diet, physical exercise, and disease burden. The onset of the COVID- 19 pandemic revealed the structural, and systemic vulnerabilities that expose people to ill- health. An individual's personal decisions regarding their lifestyle are also crucial in shaping their health experiences. In retrospect, taking a good diet, practicing sexual sanity, and physical exercise are all critically imperative in the attainment and retention of good health. Health is therefore a function of individual effort, good governance, and social dynamics.
The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise, we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them - Thomas Merton
